i found a solution thats 48 characters long, how could i shorten it

Several people have solved it, and the best record is
41characters.i Cant put ascii art in my solution :(

Also, an otherwise perfect recursive solution gives
RecursionErrorfor the big tests...I went through the same steps as you. You're almost there.
