    Hello mate! in this case you can improve you code by changing this part:

    if distance_to_pump <= res:
    return 1
    else:
    return 0

    In this case, you can just:

    return distance_to_pump <= res

    and your code will return true if the statement in the return is true, and false if not.

    Hello mate! you can check if a word is a palindrome by turning the word around with slices, and then comparing it to the original word, like this:
    if string == string[::-1]
    print('This word is a palindrome!')
