The kata was originally written in C and C++ where true and false are as good as aliases for 1 and 0. People who translated the kata into Haskell, JS, and Rust never bothered to question whether such requirement makes any sense in a language where booleans and integers are completely different things.

Edit: well maybe it's not really critical in JS where numbers are truthy/falsey and you need a single + to convert the result, but Haskell and Rust versions are definitely bad.
