Although this is a good solution, the number of best practices is not indicitive of reality (in my opinion). This is simply because magic numbers are used, to improve I would use an enum or some macros to get rid of these magic numbers.

The description says "return the clean values", but the test cases show that what is actually asked is "return for each pair of values a statement on which part(s) are trash, if any". Those two should conform better.
