    As the input is a string, it won't modify the input, that only happens with lists.

    Did you increase the recursion limit? You can do that in Python.

    If it was "incorrect", it wouldn't have been accepted.

    By the way, there are a few similar issues raised below. If it really is unsolvable (according to description), then you may have to "hack" the solution or just skip the kata. You gave no real information in your post (that someone could actually check), so you got a generic response.
