Are you sure it will return undifend?
In fact, your code always return a character of str, it's not what we want.
Some improvement suggestions:

Add this in front of your for loop:
var result=""

And then modify each return statement to:
result+=???     (??? is what you are returned)

And then add a final return statement at the end of code(out of your for loop):
return result
