There's no need for the condition because it returns 0 by default
I thought it returns False if the array is empty
it defaults to 0 when you would think it's 'null'
Doesn't matter which way you do it you still get the same result. It's the same with addition too.
If you have problems reading this, you need more practice reading code; this is on the "minor" side of unreadable.

Function name is just a variable pointing to callable object, same as other variables are pointing to other value types. So you can treat them same.
