Collections are a way for you to organize kata so that you can create your own training routines. Every collection you create is public and automatically sharable with other warriors. After you have added a few kata to a collection you and others can train on the kata contained within the collection.

Idiomatic in PL means "as intended by language authors", "according to idioms on which the language was designed". And because language authors usually know better how the language should work, idiomatic is good.
What does "idiomatic" mean? And why is it a good thing?

It's doable, keeping the kata in draft and sending them the link. But they cannot "submit final" as long as the kata is in draft.
Note: CW isn't supposed to be used as support for courses. For pedagocical support, you should go with the Qualified version (but it's not free)

can I somehow publish Katas available only by direct link? I'm not sure I want to spend much time on supporting all the rules, but I only need Katas for my students basically
