you needn't use an if block for the return values, it would make your code more compact without sacrificing readability to simply return the condition, which itself is a boolean.

Katas are all timing out for me. Would love an update or any advice.

That's a kata specific issue and should be reported there. However, that being said, those test cases are only example test cases. You can still submit your code.

every kata is timing out today, can't even return bool
