Collections are a way for you to organize kata so that you can create your own training routines. Every collection you create is public and automatically sharable with other warriors. After you have added a few kata to a collection you and others can train on the kata contained within the collection.

I wish the instructor had better command of english. Code behaviour in example does not apparently reflect how the task is set, and performing reverse engineering of test results isn't worth time spent on it. Possibly it happens when someone tries to cover all possible languages with one-task-fits-all. I skip this one, sorry.
