perhaps have you read my own question just below.
If you dont know, as me, all the pandas methods, you have to work on dtypes. For me some casting methods didnt work but I found finally one.

# my call to flatten to simulate the failed test

# tested with DataFrame() and DataFrame().to_dict() same fails
