Replying to this comment to note that author ended up solving kata in Python (I browsed his completed kata page), so there is no problem with Python tests - probably he was reading the console logs incorrectly.

For anyone else reading his comment in future, if you are also confused by this test behavior, in Python if you print the test input it will display above any assertion messages in console - read this page if you want to be clear
