Yep, readability and maintainability for the win. Regex can be great for performance, but until you minify for production, comments are a must.
This seems so much better/more elegant than the regexp options. Am I missing something? Maybe using !isFinite() would be better though due to the ambituity inherint in naming a function "isNaN" in a language that has a literal NaN keyword.
