You can use the this variable to take a look at the input.

Exactly. this refers to the object that the function is a property of.

It is written in the comments and it is one of the didactic points of this kata to let people fail and then try more efficient ways.

No need to post twice, but, anyway, no chance of passing it actually calculating all possible permutations (it is an exponential task, good luck with that!), try another approach.
