Thanks, it was my first attempt as a beginner as well
I tested all cases on ruby in my machine and the '£' test passed with my solution, but attending your comments I decided to remove it from the tests.
I have tested that specific string "1£^%1" with my solution and is working. I'll try to figure out if there is something else I could do
