You have some problems there:

let gravity = 9.81 ** 2 // why are you squaring this value?
...
// add 0.01 to time
time += 0.01 // this are hundredths of seconds, not tenths

And some other I'll let you to figure it out. Your solution (once it's fixed) works just fine.

In javascript there is at least one recursive solution that works, why did you not consider your solution could be wrong?
