The grammar part is pain, and why should 0 be followed by a plural word (dollars, cents) while 0 itself isn't plural at all?

The formula is only true for maxmimum number of electrons per shell. It goes 2, 8, 18, 32 and then there is no actual shell that holds more than 32 electrons. But it's more complicated than that anyway, because electrons fill shells following more complex rules which have exceptions. That would be too hard to implement for a kata :p

but what if you created a timeit function that tested if you were able to optimize the original counter function and make a faster way? 8)
